MFL design and manufacture an extensive range of foil strain gages and associated products. The following list of products provides a snapshot of the more popular strain gage configurations available from MFL. If the strain gage you are looking for is not available from our web site, please contact our offices direct as we have numerous other strain gage designs in stock. Alternatively we can provide a cost effective strain gage design service whereby we can produce a strain gage to a customer's exact requirements within one week, following receipt of enquiry. All MFL strain gages are manufactured with Constantan or Karma foil on a polyimide backing. Epoxy backed strain gages are available upon request. Strain gages can be supplied with a polyimide encapsulation layer or encapsulated with leadwires attached. Leadwires can be cut to any length and are available in many different types. MFL is an ISO 9001: 2000 company qualified to design and manufacture strain gages. |

Karma is a Nickel Chromium alloy which exhibits minimal reference point drift with time and temperature. It has high electrical resistivity and very low temperature coefficient of resistivity (TCR). Due to its excellent stability and good fatigue life it is an appropriate choice for long term static measurements at room temperature. It is recommended for long term static strain measurements over a temperature range from -270 deg to +270 deg Celcius. Karma foil can be self temperature compensated for Mild Steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminium. Due to the inherent difficulty with soldering onto karma solder tabs, all MFL Karma strain gages have copper plated solder tabs. Karma gages are available open face, encapsulated only, or with leads and encapsulation. Some of the benefits of Karma over Constantan are as follows:
Improved Fatigue Life.
Excellent stability over a wider temperature range.
Much flatter thermal output curve, providing more accurate correction over a wider temperature range.
Greater resistivity enables higher resistance value grids possible.
